For the Romanian Creative Week we imagined an earthly drawing board, open to all, where to compose, delete, draw and redraw ephemeral bas-reliefs on a loose mineral canvas.

We thought of the space as an open theatre, where one may sit on the edge, rest on a platform, or climb on a steep belvedere, observing the comings and goings of people and traces upon the mineral scene, or decide to take the stage, carving delicate bas reliefs upon the surface, with the help of whimsical drawing tools.

Within the stage, one may become a geographer, literally drawing on the surface of the earth; a curator, deleting or completing other people’s work; or simply find space for an extravagant picnic, a nap on the temporary field, or the chance to fulfil the desire to feel loose soil beneath your feet.

The Drawing Theater was thought of as a welcoming space for the unexpected, as well as choreographed events: we hoped for the installation to be followed throughout the week as an open-air room, where dancing, picnics, talks, or photoshoots can take place. We also hoped for the surface itself to generate artworks, and that those can be photographed over time, following the soils as they mix, the heaps as they become plains, while traces disappear, and new ones are drawn.
